Admassu Tadesse

Admassu is an international banker and development finance executive with extensive experience across Africa in sovereign, corporate, project and trade finance as well as asset management. He is President and Managing Director of the Trade and Development Bank (TDB) Group, where he has overseen significant expansion into new African markets and guided the institution’s growth to USD 10 billion in assets. Prior to leading TDB Group, he served as CEO of PTA Bank and previously as an Executive Vice-President at the Development Bank of Southern Africa, responsible for international financing and corporate strategy. Earlier in his career, he worked as an economist and strategist with development funds and international organisations in the United States, South Africa and Namibia.

Admassu holds an MSc from the London School of Economics, an MBA from Wits Business School, and executive training from Harvard Business School and INSEAD. He also holds a BA from Western University in Canada. Born in Ethiopia, he has lived and worked across Southern and Eastern Africa and speaks several languages.

Other current positions:
Admassu chairs and co-chairs several boards, notably the TDB Captive Insurance Company, TDB's asset management company and the Financial Sector Deepening agency in Ethiopia. He also serves on the boards of Gulf Africa Bank and sits on global and regional industry bodies such as the World Economic Forum’s Council on Reimagining Aid, the Africa Investment Forum, the US Corporate Council on Africa and the International Development Finance Club.
