Commercial avocado export business, engaging over 3,500 smallholders as part of its outgrower network.
AgDevCo’s investment has funded the installation of 100 ha of micro-jet irrigation on the commercial farm and the continued support of the outgrower scheme. The funding has also enabled further development of the cold storage supply chain and distribution channels to facilitate access to export markets.
RAC’s goal is for 75% of its avocados to meet export quality standards. This will open up access for around 4,200 smallholder farmers to a premium-priced market that will elevate their incomes considerably. AgDevCo’s SDU team is working with RAC to improve avocado quality and yields by supporting new software technology to manage traceability requirements, providing extension services, and running comprehensive training in new cultivation, harvesting and packing techniques.
