Overview
The Challenges

Consumption of high-quality protein in Tanzania remains significantly below both Global and African standards. There is significant growing demand for higher-quality, reliable poultry meat from the local market, but due to a lack of supply, prices are often too high for local consumption. Kingchick is seeking to help service this growing need in the market by providing higher-quality chicken at affordable prices for this urban population.

Our Approach

Kingchick aims to supply those part of the local economy that need quality meat but at an affordable price. Through live sales offtake with a major Tanzanian processor as well as through local networks of agents and via outlet stores, Kingchick hopes to boost local consumption of poultry meat. The business also believes its success to date can demonstrate the benefits of broiler chicken rearing to local small-scale farmers, thus helping further grow the supply of affordable poultry into the market.

Our Impact

·Kingchick plans to expand its outlet network from one store to 10 over the next five years.

·Kingchick only employs women in the processing facilities, employing 14 FTE female staff in 2017.

·Business developing food safety certified processing facility for slaughtering and dressing.
