An agro-processor sourcing and processing oil palm in Ghana.
The SDU is working with B-BOVID, an award-winning oil palm processor that sources most of its oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) at farmgate from smallholder farmers, and supports them in implementing agro-forestry practices and integrated cropping. The SDU partnership with B-BOVID is laying the groundwork to achieve Responsible Sourcing of Palm Oil (RSPO) certification for B-BOVID’s oil processing mill and the smallholder farmers from whom the Company sources. This will enable the smallholder farmers to access higher prices for their FFB, as the RSPO certification will allow B-BOVID to access international export markets. This work will also improve the traceability of B-BOVID’s crude palm oil and palm kernel oil to the smallholder producers of the source FFB. The SDU’s support is also being used to provide the smallholder farmers with training in good agricultural practices, to increase their productivity.
