AgDevCo is delighted to announce that EA Fruits Farm & Company Limited, an investee business of AgDevCo in Tanzania has received the Environment Award at the 2015 African Entrepreneurship Awards in Marrakech.
EA Fruits Founder and CEO, Elia Timotheo, was among 10 individuals from eight different countries across the continent who were selected for their entrepreneurial spirit and ambition in tackling some of Africa's most pressing issues across health, education and food security. The award includes a USD 150,000 grant to support the business' ongoing operations.
EA Fruits Farm & Company Limited is a fresh produce trading and distribution company based in Tanzania. Its mission is to eliminate post-harvest food wastage across the East Africa region by providing timely collection and storage of fresh produce and transports that produce for sale in urban centres - predominantly the capital, Dar es Salaam. The African Entrepreneurship Awards noted the business' existing impact in the agricultural and produce sectors and commented that business is "ultimately empowering Africa to more effectively feed her people".
EA Fruits' business model will have a significant impact on the lives of its suppliers, the majority of which are smallholder farmers, for whom without the business as a buyer, would either be forced to sell into oversupplied local markets often at low prices, or see their produce go wasted.
AgDevCo would like to congratulate the business on its success to date, and is looking forward to supporting it as it expands its efforts.
