Managing Director

Chris is one of AgDevCo’s founding directors. He has been working on development finance issues in Africa for the past 15 years, including two extended periods living overseas. Chris’ experience includes working in infrastructure project development at InfraCo Africa, as an economic adviser for the UK’s Department for International Development and as an adviser and speechwriter to the Minister of Finance in the Namibian government. His career started as a corporate finance specialist with Arthur Andersen in London, after completing the prestigious Arthur Andersen scholarship programme. Chris has economics degrees from University College, Oxford (BA Hons) and the London School of Economics (MSc) and holds an advanced qualification in investment appraisal. His responsibilities at AgDevCo include being the senior investment director responsible for East Africa (Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi and Kenya) and West Africa (Ghana, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Senegal).  

Other current positions: Chris is a member of AgDevCo’s Board and Executive Committee. He also holds a number of board positions in AgDevCo’s subsidiary and investee companies.

Grace Nafuna
Office Administrator and PA

Grace is an office administrator at AgDevCo’s Uganda office and is also a personal assistant to the Associate Director of Uganda/Rwanda; Tom Adlam. Grace is a driven, passionate and people loving person with a special leaning towards human rights advocacy, gender, politics, people management and social impact development. In working with AgDevCo, Grace hopes to render her many skills to the organisation and liaise with like-minded individuals to create a lasting positive impact on the continent.

Associate Director

Rebecca is an Associate Director and Country Head for Uganda. Rebecca has over 10 years of experience in agri-business and finance in emerging markets. She has held a number of roles at AgDevCo. She set-up our operations in Uganda and is now responsible for originating, executing and managing all the current and potential Ugandan investments and oversees the country team and office. Before focusing on Uganda, she led investments in Malawi and was Portfolio Manager for the Group for three years which included portfolios in West, Southern and East Africa. Prior to AgDevCo, she managed a large rice farming, milling and exporting company in South America, worked for a strategic advisory firm in London and interned with Merrill Lynch in New York. Rebecca has a BBA (Hons) in Finance, and a MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

Ivan Ssenyonjo
Investment Manager

Ivan is responsible for sourcing and developing investments in Uganda. Before joining AgDevCo Ivan spent 4 years as an Investment Manager at Pearl Capital Partners, a specialist agribusiness impact investor in East Africa. He has experience working with agribusinesses across eastern Africa, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda and sector experience working with grain seed businesses. Prior to that Ivan was an Accountant at African Agricultural Capital and the Kilimo Trust. Ivan is a chartered accountant and has an MBA from Makerere University, Uganda.

Benard Ssewagaba
Finance Manager

Benard is responsible for the finance function in Uganda. Before joining AgDevCo, Benard spent 4 years as an Accountant at Pearl Capital Partners, a specialized impact investor in East Africa. Prior to that he worked at Barclays Bank Uganda Limited as a Corporate Assistant and at Footsteps Furniture Company as a Management Accountant.

Benard has experience in corporate reporting, performance management, taxation, risk and governance. He is a Chartered and Certified Public Accountant, Member of ACCA and CPA Uganda, and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) – Accounting from Makerere University.

Angel Zhao
Enterprise Development Team Manager

Angel joins the Enterprise Development Team which provides technical assistance to AgDevCo investees. Angel is a CPA and CA and joins us from Ernst and Young Toronto where she has worked for six years. She has worked with a wide range of companies, from public listed entities to start-ups in the retail, manufacturing, non-for-profit sectors, to name but a few. Angel previously worked in our Uganda/Rwanda offices, where she spent 3 months as part of EY’s Enterprise Growth Services Programme in 2017.  She worked closely with our investments and pipeline businesses including leading financial improvement programmes, scoping visits and initial due diligence assessments.
