TARGETING EARLY-STAGE AGRIBUSINESSES, WHICH TYPICALLY MISS OUT ON FUNDING.

AgDevCo believes that investing in agriculture is one of the most effective ways of lifting millions out of poverty in Africa. There are many early-stage farming and agri-processing businesses that could grow rapidly with better access to capital and management support. Those businesses could create jobs, link smallholder farmers to markets and contribute to food security, while offering reasonable financial returns to investors who are prepared to be patient

AgDevCo invests flexible, long-term capital in African agribusinesses across the value chain, with a particular focus on those that work with smallholder farmers. We also develop greenfield irrigated farming operations. Our investment professionals and agriculture experts – the majority of whom are based in Africa – work closely with our investees to develop strong businesses that are able to compete with the best in the world.

WE CAN ONLY ACHIEVE OUR OBJECTIVES
AND EXPECT OUR INVESTEES TO ADOPT SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
BY DEMONSTRATING ROBUSTNESS IN OUR OWN PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES.

Real lives
Soloman Ngwira, TROPHA MACADAMIAS, Malawi
In 2008 Soloman started working as foreman in the nursery – a simple operation propagating coffee and macadamia seedlings. Since AgDevCo’s investment, new technical skills have enabled the nursery to scale up significantly – it now stocks 100,000 trees to supply smallholder farmers. In 2014 Soloman was promoted to supervisor, responsible for maintaining the nursery operations and managing a team of 12 people.
"The training and irrigation we’ve received has improved the quality of our estate. It’s changed our prospects fundamentally. "
