Patient capital is long-term capital made available by the international community on concessional terms. It is used to part-fund the capital costs of irrigation and related agriculture supporting infrastructure.

The Case for Patient Capital – Chiansi Irrigation

The Chiansi irrigation project, managed by InfraCo, adopts a fundamentally new approach to boost food production and incomes of smallholder farmers. It involves the creation of a shared, commercially managed water infrastructure system for all landowners. The cost of the irrigation project, which is initially paid for with patient capital, is paid back from the value uplift generated by the separately managed commercial farm operation. This commercial farm operation takes place on unused land contributed by smallholder farmers.
