AgDevCo’s Catalytic Role

By taking a hands-on project development role and investing in early-stage agribusinesses, AgDevCo takes out many of the "front-end" costs and risks which deter investment in African agriculture. AgDevCo thereby leverages significant private capital in support of agribusiness opportunities which involve transformational benefits for rural communities.

For projects with significant infrastructure needs - for example irrigation, feeder roads and power lines - AgDevCo sources "patient capital" from the international community. Where necessary, it also arranges credit enhancement for senior debt, to enable extended tenors and access to local currency financing. The result is commercially viable and sustainable agribusinesses which do not require long-term subsidy.
